What Is The Dunya As Explained By Moulana Rumi رحمۃ اللہ علیہ
Some inexperienced and simpleminded people tend to say "Kick the world and have nothing to do with it. Forsake and abandon the world". I say in response to this, if one does not have money, if one does not have food, one will not even have the strength to lift one's leg to kick the world. From this we learn that the reality of the DUNYA needs to be more clear. what is meant by the DUNYA is not wealth and treasure. What is the reality of the world then? MOLANA RUMI رحمۃ اللہ علیہ in a single verse poses the question and provides the answer as well,
None of the above is DUNYA, provided it does not keep one heedless of Allah's remembrance. As long as one possesses the Dunya in kepping with the commands of Allah Ta'ala, as longas one's possessions do not cause one to be engaged in His disobedience, one will be an ALLAH-WALA (one who has attained a special connection with Allah Ta'ala) and not a DUNYADAAR, not a worldly person in the least. On the other hand, a person may be a begger, he may be penniless and passing his days in poverty, he may be in very difficult circumstances, experiencing hunger and starvation but is heedless of Allah Ta'ala and is embroiled in the disobedience of Allah Ta'ala, such a person is a total DUNYADAAR, a totally worldly person.

This clarifies the point that even while lounging in the lap of luxury, while possessing mansions and even a kingdom, a person can be DEENDAR, can yet be religious, can be a WALI-ALLAH, a friend of Allah whose friendship is rewarded by Allah Himself. this is why Molana has referred to heedlessness and inattention towards Allah and breaking Allah's commands as worldliness.
